The 3 pillars of ABRAMS PREMIUM TOOLS
1. High-purity HSSE-PM special steel
The challenge
Minimizing the risk of tap breakage
A major reason for the risk of tap breakage when under stress is usually the cutting material and heat treatment. If the cutting material is conventionally melted HSS steel it will contain impurities, has an inhomogeneous microstructure and unequal carbide sizes. Consequently, despite heat treatment a high toughness can not be achieved.
If conventional PM steel is used for cutting material it often contains non-metal inclusions which are not prevented in the PM-process and also has a low elasticity.
High-purity HSSE-PM special steel
By using cutting material of high-purity powder metallurgical special steel, which is perfected by specific heat treatment to high hardness and simultaneously optimised toughness will minimize the risk of breakage of the tool.A major reason for the risk of tap breakage when under stress is usually the cutting material and heat treatment. 2. Innovative cutting geometry
The challenge
Reduction of the amount of different taps
With the vast amount of different steel grades with different tensile strength and machinability properties, various tapping tools are often required in order to machine these materials according to their properties. Due to the necessary variety of tools, both capital commitment as well as the time required for the frequent tool changes (set-up time) increases.
ABRAMS®-Solution:
An innovative cutting geometry
The cutting geometry essentially determines the ability of the tool to cut different materials and is largely responsible for the lifetime of the tool. Due to the unique, innovative ABRAMS®-cutting geometry an improved chip formation and chip removal is achieved as well as the guiding properties and the stability of the tool. Their special arrangement reduces adhesive and abrasive damages and thus protects against cold welding and edge chipping. This enables the universal use of the taps to cut almost ABRAMS PREMIUM STEEL® grades – regardless if it is tool steel, high speed steel, corrosion resistant steel, heat-treatable steel, case hardening steel and nitriding steel.
3. APT-NEOX®-coating
The challenge
Increase the durability of the taps
The universal application of the taps alone does not yet meet the demands of the industry: in production, process reliability and production speed are also to be significantly improved.
ABRAMS®-Solution:
A multi-layer APT-NEOX®-coating
APT-NEOX® is a multi-layer PREMIUM coating, whose extremely hard and temperature-resistant base layer increases the resistance to heat and wear and thus minimises abrasive effects on the cutting edge. The exellent sliding and lubricating properties of the top layer lead to reduction of adhesive wear (adhering or shearing effects), optimises chip formation or respectively chip removal and consequently leads to lower torsional forces. This means a longer tool life and the possibility of higher cutting speed.
ABRAMS® PREMIUM-TOOLS
- Higher process reliability due to significantly reduced risk of breakage
- Reduced capital commitment and higher flexibility due to universal use of tools
- Longer tool life, even at high cutting speeds
- Cost reduction with each thread cut
- Sum of your competitive advantages
